I had NEVER seen this done until I spent a week at Microsoft in the US. I come from South Africa and it is considered rude to even sms from your phone during a meeting. I have also not seen this in the UK. Would be interesting to take a poll to see if this is unique to a country or company culture.

They will generally have in mind indsutries/companies/job titles of people that interest them. The fact that facebook stores this information makes it a tool for recruiters.

On the flip side, if you were interested in working for a specific company and could find the e-mail address of a recruiter from that company on facebook, thus allowing you to by-pass the career site, would you utilize that info?

Crafty recruiters are going to use whatever they can find as long as it meets their needs, regardless of whether that use was intended or not. Every time I see a new ap on facebook, I think "how can I use this?". I think once it becomes more obvious that recruiters will use facebook, someone will develop aps for them.

Craig - my team would be happy to test out whatever you are building!

The applications that are being designed for the website, to me, are not really directed towards networking with professionals, because Facebook was never really designed to be used for such a purpose.

I don’t think I will ever be able to use Facebook as a networking tool. I plan on just transitioning over to the more professional “grown-up” LinkedIn.

Just my thoughts on the matter…

We on the Dynamics Community team agree with you wholeheartedly. We are working on an update for this site that will allow business orientated networking for our users. We are also investigating having this interop with Facebook and LinkedIn. Its going to take us a while to get this done so it will be laterthis year but its coming.
